THE MARKET TAVERN TAP
Atherstone, North Warwickshire
I love my hometown of Atherstone and am very proud to have contributed a little something to its imbibing history, thanks to my favourite pub ‘The Market Tavern Tap’. After a brief chat with top landlord Leigh in early 2025, I was commissioned to create and paint the pub sign now proudly hanging above the door. An appropriate and most gratifying legacy for a lifelong ale drinker and ‘Tavern’ regular such as myself.

Like pubs themselves, their signs have become an iconic and integral part of British culture, reflecting the country’s rich history, traditions and community identity.

Traditional pub signs on 3/4 inch marine ply, hand painted by myself with sign writing by Chris Shirley, varnished with UV-resistant topcoat that protects colours from fading and provides mild abrasion resistance, ensuring long-lasting vibrancy and durability. Prices start at £2000

The Market Tavern Tap
Leigh, Antoni and their first-rate team have gone from strength to strength, winning CAMRA Warwickshire pub of the year in 2025 and 2026. You’ll find them in The Good Beer Guide 2027 and here’s what it has to say -
Elegantly decorated pub, whose main bar room looks out to the pretty market square. A small snug is to the rear, and a first-floor room showcases old timber framework which in earlier days was filled in with wattle-and-daub. Many historic local images decorate the walls. In summer there is café-style seating at the front and a pleasant yard-cum-garden to the rear. Seven interesting ales are offered along with a selection of Belgian beers. Food is served throughout the week and includes a traditional Sunday offering.
Here’s a typical review from Tripadvisor - Absolutely great place well worth a visit (or few) - Reviewed July 26, 2026
I've never been in a more beautiful, friendly place. The atmosphere and staff are all absolutely brilliant and the way the place is run is just phenomenal. If only every bar was run this way it would be great. I particularly loved the way they put tables and chairs out in the square (with other premises). It gives a real European feel to the place and the whole ambience is amazing. Keep up the great work guys, thank you all for making our visit a bit more special and can't wait to come again.
